Mozambique opposition boycotts peace talks

first_imgMozambique’s main opposition party Renamo on Monday boycotted peace talks with the ruling Frelimo for the second time, raising tensions further in the country where sporadic clashes between the army and rebel gunmen have resumed.Peace talks were introduced two years ago after Renamo began low-level insurgencies against the government, two decades after its devastating 16-year civil war with Frelimo ended.A ceasefire agreement was signed last year by former president Armando Guebuza and Renamo leader Afonso Dhlakama, allowing the latter to run in the October presidential election. One year and around 114 rounds of dialogue later however, the ceasefire still has not been fully implemented with Renamo blaming the government’s failure to integrate rebel soldiers into the army and police. In recent weeks, Renamo has announced the creation of two military bases, and just last week, the opposition party’s Dhlakama announced the creation of a separate Renamo police force, and.Low-key clashes between Renamo and the military have resumed in recent months in the central coal-rich Tete province, forcing people to flee to the neighbouring Malawi.Meditators seem to believe that only a high-level meeting between the president and the Renamo leader will defuse the tension. Dhlakama has however officially rejected invitations sent by the presidency. On Saturday, Dhlakama’s convoy was hit by gunfire as he returned from a rally in the central Manica province but he escaped unhurt. He later declared it a “planned attack” by Frelimo, an accusation which the police denied.last_img read more

ICC World Cup Bhuvneshwar Kumar ruled out of next 2-3 World Cup games for India due to hamstring injury

first_imghighlights India is currently undefeated in the 2019 World Cup.India extended their head-to-head advantage against Pakistan to 7-0.Bhuvneshwar might be fit for the game against Bangladesh on July 2. New Delhi: Virat Kohli’s Indian cricket team put up a brilliant performance against Pakistan with both bat and ball as they extended their World Cup domination to 7-0 in the tournament. Rohit Sharma blasted his 24th century and aided by a couple of wickets from Kuldeep Yadav and Hardik Pandya, India registered a crushing 89-run win via DLS method in Manchester as they continued their dominant run in the competition. However, the victory came at a cost with Bhuvneshwar Kumar suffering a hamstring injury while bowling the fourth ball of the fourth over. Bhuvneshwar bowled a good ball which beat Imam-ul-Haq but he was seen feeling his left hamstring. Bhuvneshwar was stretching his hamstring with Dhoni and a few others talking to him. In the interim, umpire Bruce Oxenford called for the hammer to repair the landing area.Apparently, Bhuvi slipped while delivering the ball in those footholes and he walked off slightly angry. Minutes later, the Indian team management confirmed that Bhuvneshwar was feeling tightness in his left hamstring and would play no further part in the match. However, the injury provided a silver lining as Vijay Shankar struck with his first ball in the World Cup by trapping Imam-ul-Haq with a good length delivery that swung back in and it struck Imam on leg stump. Shankar achieved a unique feat as he became only the third bowler in history to take a wicket with his first ball in the World Cup. Malachi Jones of Bermuda got the wicket of Robin Uthappa in the 2007 World Cup in Port of Spain while Ian Harvey of Australia also got a wicket with his first ball against Pakistan in Johannesburg in the 2003 World Cup.In the post-match presentation, Kohli said the injury was not too serious for Bhuvneshwar Kumar. “Bhuvi’s case looks like a niggle, a case of slipping on the footmarks. It doesn’t look too serious at the moment and looks like he could recover in a couple of games from now, a maximum of three games. He is going to be an important factor for us so hopefully, he can recover in time. Even Bhuvi doesn’t think his niggle is too bad and that time would heal it,” Kohli said. With Bhuvneshwar’s absence, Mohammed Shami will finally get a chance for the upcoming games and it will once again explore the depth in the Indian dressing room regarding both the batting and the bowling. Shami was impressive in the series in Australia and New Zealand and there have been calls to include him in the playing XIs.India will play their next games on June 22 against Afghanistan in Southampton, West Indies on June 29 in Manchester while they will take on England on June 30 in Birmingham.center_img For all the Latest Sports News News, ICC World Cup News, Download News Nation Android and iOS Mobile Apps.last_img read more

Wellington travels to No. 2 Andale… South Haven to battle Udall in what is a playoff game… Conway Springs hosts Garden Plain

first_imgby Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — This week on tap on football Friday… Wellington has its work cut out for it when it travels to Andale, Udall travels to South Haven which is essentially a playoff game, South Barber comes to Caldwell, and Garden Plain travels to Conway Springs in what may be the least anticipated matchup between these teams in years… Injury situation: The Dukes seem pretty healthy. Tyson Hodson should be back. Brendon Troutman could be back from his wrist injury. Oct. 31Winfieldaway •••••Other Sumner County games:UDALL AT SOUTH HAVEN (CJ COMPUTER pick: Udall) This is a playoff game for both teams. West Elk defeated both Udall and South Haven in District 1 and has all but sown up the top spot in District 1. But the second place is up for grabs. Sedan is also playing in the mix.The Cardinals are hoping to preserve their playoff streak that has run back to 2003. That’s an eternity in the football world. But to do so, they have to win this weekend. South Haven lost 44-42 in overtime to West Elk two weeks ago while Udall lost to the same Patriot team 42-22. Both have beaten Oxford. Wellington21.66741.80014493 The synopsis: Wellington head football coach Tyler Ryan made a startling point at Crusader Club the other day.“Andale has probably the best team they have had in years, probably since they won a state championship,” he said.Oh, boy.Andale last won a state championship in 2007. That’s five Andale teams since that weren’t as good as these 2013 Indians. To say the Crusaders have their work cut out for them may be that, well you know the term.. ” an understatement.”Wellington beat Circle 43-0 in a romp during a rain-induced Friday. Trouble is, Andale was down the road destroying Augusta 73-6.2012 was not a good season for the Crusaders. But Wellington really lost to Andale losing 60-30. The game was notable in that Andale held a 52-16 lead at the half. Ask any Crusader player who played that game last year, and they will tell you Andale just hit harder than the other teams.Andale will typically run you over. Hunter Knoblauch is the leading rusher in Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Div. IV with 767 yards. Hank Eck (always an Eck) has 292 yards and quarterback Jared Smarsh has 212.The Indians rarely pass, but Smarsh has thrown for 289 yards this season. So should Wellington even bother showing up?Of course it should. One thing this year’s team has proven – it can play ball with about anybody. Wellington lost to Wichita Collegiate 49-21 but was tied with the Spartans midway through the third quarter before they let the game get away from them. Collegiate has been the one team that gave Andale a game, losing a close one to the Indians 30-28.Wellington will have to put together its best game of the season and then have a little luck on top of that to win this one. But that’s why they play the game. The Topeka Capital-Journal computerized picks: Andale. Follow the game: Twitter: Cueballnewscow. Radio: Adrian Young, play-by-play, KLEY-AM 1130. SOUTH BARBER AT CALDWELL (CJ COMPUTER pick: South Barber) Caldwell is sitting on a two-game losing streak. South Barber is just 3-2. This will be a tough matchup for the Bluejays who are still reeling from injuries. AV-CTL standings:  Game’s significance: League title. If Wellington wins this one, it pulls into a three-way tie with Andale and Wichita Collegiate with just Clearwater left to play. Oct. 18Clearwateraway Sept. 20AugustaWellington wins 19-10. Series history: In 2003 Wellington defeated Andale 46-29 and owned a 6-1 advantage on the Indians. Since 2006, Andale has a 8-1 advantage with the lone Crusader win in the 2011 season opener. That’s because Garden Plain has struggled as of late with two straight losses. Last week it lost to Cheney after falling to Wichita Trinity the week before. Trinity then lost to Conway Springs last week.So Conway Springs may be salivating for a chance of beating Garden Plain like a drum, something that just doesn’t happen. The Cardinals are 5-0. The Owls are 3-2. But the thing about a rivalry like this, you never know… Andale:Andale 30 Wichita Collegiate 28Andale 32 Rose Hill 16Andale 37 Clearwater 7Andale 66 Circle 7Andale 73 Augusta 6. OXFORD AT SEDAN (CJ COMPUTER pick: Oxford)The Wildcats may have kissed their playoff hopes goodbye with a loss to South Haven. But Oxford can take care of business with Sedan and hope Udall and South Haven completely self destruct down the stretch.
