Rushville Invitational

first_imgThis coming Saturday will be the Rushville Cross Country Invitational.  Rushville started this event almost 40 years ago.  At that time cross country was just becoming popular in southeast Indiana.  In the early days more than 40 teams participated in this event, and it was a boys only meet run in classes based on enrollment.Batesville was very fortunate because they won this event early and often.  Many of the large Indianapolis schools ran in this event.  It was a preview of the state meet.  In fact, there were more teams participating in this meet than ran in the state meet.  When Batesville runs in this event this Saturday, the number of teams will not be as many as there were in the old days, but it will be a boys and girls invitational.  Good luck to all the teams from the area who will be running in this event.last_img read more

Wichita State

first_imgWichita State recently accepted an invitation to become a member of the American Athletic Conference.  This means that the long-standing Missouri Valley Conference has lost 2 of its premier teams.  Creighton left 2 years ago.Since Wichita State does not play football, it will not cause an imbalance in the 12-team football portion of the AAC.  The Shockers will participate in all sports except football.Wichita State needed to do this so they could assure themselves of achieving higher seeds in the NCAA Tournament.  Remember, this year they lost in the second round to Kentucky, but it was only by 3 points.  A higher seed would have prevented this type of match-up in the round of 32.Some of the information in this article needs to be credited to Pat Robb of the AP.last_img
